Manipulating endothelial progenitor cell phenotype to enhance vascular repair in high-risk humans
BHRC funding will help develop an application for an Intermediate research Fellowship (IRF) for a BHF clinical research Fellow; The IRF application will build on work from a number of fundamental observations demonstrating that endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) from insulin resistant (IR) humans are dysfunctional and will focus on novel target interventions to salvage this phenotype. BHRC funding will allow the researcher to begin to develop novel approaches to manipulate EPC function. The effects of these interventions in human EPCs will be examined in in-vitro and in-vivo models.
