David graduated from Oxford in 1976, and London in 1979. He was appointed to the Foundation Chair in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Leeds in 1994. His clinical practice is as an honorary consultant child & adolescent psychiatrist and systemic family psychotherapist in the local Leeds Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, part of Leeds Primary Care Trust.
He was Director of Learning & Teaching in the School of Medicine with responsibility for all undergraduate and postgraduate learning and teaching activity from 1999 – 2006. In 2008 he was appointed Dean of Medicine at the school.
