About
Robin Bon studied chemistry at Utrecht University, the Hogeschool van Amsterdam and the Hogeschool van Utrecht. His graduation research (performed under supervision of Prof. Dr. Henk Hiemstra and Dr. Jan van Maarseveen at the University of Amsterdam) involved the synthesis of bridged ketopiperazines using N-acyliminium ion chemistry. Robin obtained his PhD in January 2007 from the Department of Chemistry at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (supervisors Prof. Dr. Marinus Groen and Prof. Dr. Romano Orru). His thesis describes the development of new multicomponent reactions and their application in the synthesis of N-heterocyclic carbene complexes and Nutlin analogues. In August 2006, Robin started as a post-doctoral fellow in the lab of Prof. Dr. Herbert Waldmann at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany. His research, which focused on the design, synthesis and evaluation of selective inhibitors of the enzyme Rab geranylgeranyltransferase, was financially supported by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
Robin’s current research interests include synthesis and screening of compound libraries, design, synthesis and evaluation of enzyme inhibitors and development of tools for biochemical assays.
