Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (MCCB) Technology Group
The ability to utilise small molecules to selectively interfere and moderate biological processes is one of the cornerstones of modern medicine. The design, synthesis and refinement of such molecules, either directed towards the development of therapeutics (‘medicinal chemistry’) or applied to the elucidation of biological structure and function (‘chemical biology’) are particular areas of strength at Leeds University.
The Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (MCCB) Technology group aims to identify and optimise targeted small molecules as key modulators of specific biological function as part of collaborative frameworks with scientists and clinicians from both academia and industry. The group forms a core technology unit within the Biomedical Health Research Centre (BHRC) at Leeds University and works closely with experts from a variety of disciplines across the university in order to progress basic science for clinical benefit. The aim of the group is to provide robust, reliable and innovative solutions to problems within the fields of Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology. It seeks to expedite the identification and/or generation of optimised small molecules for the purpose of joint grant applications and/or partnership both with academic and industrial collaborators. Crucially, the resource activities of the group can be provided on a pump-priming basis such that researchers can efficiently and rapidly gain access to its development capabilities.
