About us

What we do

The BHRC is a facilitation and co-ordination mechanism promoting translational multidisciplinary research across the University and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust via:

  • A structured and systematic approach to developing effective collaborations between the Scientific Faculties of the University and the Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust supported by a shared governance structure, leadership and high-level strategic scientific advice.

  • The creation of a Senior Translational Research Fellowship Scheme to bring in excellent scientists whose posts are structured so that they promote effective collaboration and ensure that translational research activities are increased in volume, quality and speed.

  • Joint mentoring approaches and interactions at the level of Senior Translational Research Fellows and of their senior scientific mentors, which ensure a collective focus on translational research and enhanced levels of collaboration across Science Faculties and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

  • Investment through the Technology Group Scheme to improve the technological environment and scientific infrastructure to promote translational research across the BHRC.

  • The creation of a short-term funding facility, Problem Solving Fund, to unblock particular obstacles in translational research with promising potential in securing external funding.

  • The identification and promotion of wider activities (seminar/workshop series) to promote collaborative and supporting research ethos and improvement of the volume and quality of research in the University and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

  • The creation of a small core facility and resource to support cross-Faculty and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust activity and remove barriers to effective collaboration.

  • The development of an identity, nationally and internationally, of Leeds as an integrated, translational Biomedical and Health Research Centre.
