About us

Objectives

The future of healthcare research will depend upon the translation of basic scientific work in many disciplines into healthcare initiatives.  This has been recognised nationally in the report of Sir David Cooksey and in funding strategies by the Department of Health, MRC, EPSRC and major biomedical charities.

The initiative to develop a BHRC in Leeds has been developed in response to these funding opportunities and the view that the strong science Faculties which already have significant healthcare interests, working together with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the NHS organisations in Leeds can deliver world-class research in response to global healthcare challenges.

Our vision is to bring benefit to patients through excellence in translational research.

The objectives of the BHRC are:

  • To bring benefits to patients from harnessing the research power of the University of Leeds and Partner NHS Trusts in Leeds

  • To develop a robust collaborative research framework capable of responding to global healthcare challenges

  • To increase translational research grant income

  • To strengthen the University’s and LTHT’s Research Strategies
